3 Retired Officials Jailed for Corruption

Sundargarh: The Vigilance Court in Sundargarh sentenced three retired soil conservation officers to two years of rigorous imprisonment for embezzling government funds.

The Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, found B. Kamaraj Behera (former Soil Conservation Assistant), Rasananda Choudhury (former Soil Conservation Assistant), and Narendra Kalo (former Junior Soil Conservation Assistant) guilty of misappropriating funds during a plantation project in Bangurkela under Gopalpur Range, Hemgiri Block.

The trio was convicted of forging vouchers and muster rolls to siphon off government money allocated for the project. In addition to the jail term, the court imposed a fine of ₹15,000 on each of the convicts.

The Odisha Vigilance had filed a chargesheet against the accused under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and relevant sections of the IPC, including 13(2), 13(1)(c)(d), 409, 468, 477-A, and 34.

Following the conviction, Vigilance officials stated that the anti-corruption agency would approach the competent authority to recommend the suspension of pensions for the convicted officers.
