2nd AIIMS In Odisha: Central Team To Review Infrastructure, Sundargarh MCH

Sundargarh (Reporters Today Bureau): A 5- member technical team of the Centre will visit to review infrastructure facilities at the Sundargarh College & Hospital today for setting up a second AIIMS in Odisha.

The Central team reached Sundargarh district yesterday and stayed at a guest house of the NTPC at Darlipali at night. The members visited the medical college in the morning today.

The team will submit its preliminary report to the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare on the State’s proposal for the establishment of the AIIMS at the NTPC Medical College & Hospital after assessment

State Health Minister Naba Kishore Das had earlier urged the Union Ministry to propose it for set up a second AIIMS in Odisha.

In a letter to Union Health Minister, Harsh Vardan, Das said “This available infrastructure can be utilized for setting up of AIIMS within a short period of time. It will cater to a large tribal population in the area and help in providing quality tertiary care in the backward area of western Odisha, The location is easily accessible through road, and air (Jharsuguda airport),” the then Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy had said.

Odisha has a fully functional AllMS in Bhubaneswar.
