278 Undertrials get Bail on first day of camp courts

Bhubaneswar:  Two days after the direction of the Orissa High Court, camp courts were conducted on the premises of jails across the state and 278 undertrial prisoners (UTPs) were granted bail on Monday.

On the first day of the camp court, highest 157 prisoners were granted bail in the camp court organised in Kendrapara jail followed by 56 in Choudwar jail. Similarly, 29 undertrials from Karanjia and nine from Barbil jails were granted bails.

On Saturday, the Orissa High Court directed all the district and sessions judges to hold camp court on jails premises across the state to facilitate bail of undertrial prisoners.  The direction came in view of the extraordinary situation across the state due to the unending strike by lawyers.
