Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has converted 263 hamlets into revenue villages over the past year, significantly advancing its efforts to improve administrative efficiency and infrastructure in rural areas.
State’s Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari informed the State Assembly that the state is also considering a proposal to grant revenue village status to an additional 147 hamlets, which is currently under review. A final decision on the matter is expected by April.
The Minister emphasized that the government is utilizing modern mapping and boundary demarcation technologies to expedite the conversion process. With the implementation of these technologies, the conversion of hamlets into revenue villages is expected to be completed within a week.
As part of the initiative, residents seeking revenue village status for their hamlets have been instructed to submit their applications through their local Tehsildar. This step is intended to streamline the process and ensure that all eligible hamlets are considered for the status.Pujari further said that, to date, the Board of Revenue has declared a total of 1,053 hamlets as revenue villages. However, he pointed out that due to delays during the previous government’s tenure, only 307 of these hamlets have been updated in land records, leaving more than 700 hamlets still pending.
