110 Kg Silver Bars Seized During Vehicle Check in Rengali, Two Detained

Rengali: In a surprising twist to a routine anti-narcotics operation, Excise officials in Rengali seized a massive consignment of silver bars weighing approximately 110 kilograms, valued at over ₹1 crore, during a vehicle check aimed at curbing cannabis smuggling.

The seizure took place near Tahsil Chhak, where a Scorpio SUV bearing the registration number MH01EF0549 was stopped for inspection. Upon frisking the vehicle, officials discovered a hidden compartment containing the silver bars.

According to sources, the vehicle was en route from Raipur to Kolkata, allegedly transporting the silver covertly. The two occupants, identified as Chandrakant Patel and Sanjay Bhai Patel, were taken into custody after they failed to provide valid documentation for the possession or transport of the precious metal.

Authorities from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department have since been dispatched to Rengali to launch a detailed investigation into the case, including the origin and intended destination of the silver consignment.

Officials suspect the seizure may be linked to larger networks operating in illegal trade or tax evasion.
