Bhubaneswar: 10 districts in Odisha have recorded deficit rainfall this monsoon so far, informed the Bhubaneswar met centre today. As per the data by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), seasonal cumulative rainfall recorded from June 1 to September 19 is 1000.6 mm against its normal value of 1084.2 mm.
As many as 10 districts including Kandhamal, Puri, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore have received deifient rainfall (-59% to -20%). Malkangiri district has received highest rainfall of 1889.7 mm (above 60% or more).
The rest 19 districts have received normal rainfall, informed the IMD. While scanty rainfall in 10 districts has emerged as a major concern for agriculture and irrigation sectors, the situation is expected to improve as the IMD predicts low pressure systems in Bay of Bengal.
